Introduction

Kriya Sharir (Ayurveda Physiology) is the key subject in study of medical sciences. This subject provides the basic knowledge of functional aspect of the human body, mind and the senses.  Normal and abnormal functions of Dosha-Dhatu and Mala in human body which helps in critical understanding of disease process and insight to disease management and prevention. Physiology is the core of medical wisdom. Its enormous contribution is responsible for the growth of medical technology and clinical management. The management of the department of Kriya Shari in AIIA, New Delhi is initiated from April 2020. This department deals with the basic concepts, knowledge and applicability of Tridosha (Trifold functional entities- Vata, Pitta and Kapha), Sapta Dhatus (Tissue), Malas (Excretory waste), Prakirti (concept of Genetics), Mana (Mind, cognition, memory etc), Nidra (Physiology Sleep), Oja (Physiology of Immunity) etc. The etiopathogenesis of disease cannot be explained unless Dosha-Dhatu-Mala is assessed subjectively & objectively. Therefore, this subject is the base for proper understanding of Ayurveda and is of great importance for a medical student to understand all other pre, para and clinical subject.

Vision: To be committed to behaviour excellence in Kriya Sharir education as well as outstanding evidence-based research, to obtain optimum knowledge of physiological concepts in Ayurveda and their practical applicability.

Mission: To bring about innovations and modernization in Ayurveda medical education technology, development of economical simple user- friendly handy instruments based on modern technology and cutting-edge research in better understanding of various body function in terms of Ayurveda Kriya Sharir.

  1. Objective : To prepare the [post graduates and specialists for evidence-based understanding of Ayurveda principles of Kriya Sharia by bringing about innovation and excellence in teaching and research
  2. To develop objective parameters of the entities related Kriya Sharira viz. Tridosha, Sapta Dhatu, mala, Agni, Srotasa etc. based on modern technology and cutting research in better understanding of various body function.
  3. To supplement to patients, care in association with clinical departments and interdisciplinary collaborative research by developing the department labs- teaching & fundamental research.
  4. To develop various research labs from Ayurveda view point. Following labs for the above purpose are envisioned.

  7. Cognitive & stress physiology lab
  8. Emotion and affective lab
  9. Sleep lab
  10. Mind body medicine & Enriched environment setup
  11. Environment lab
  12. Reproductive physiology lab
  13. Single acquisition, analysis & instrument development lab
  14. Genetic lab
  15. Zebra fish lab

The above Research projects will be carried out in coordination with other disciplines of this institute as well as in collaboration with other premier institutes of India and abroad.

16) Course learning outcomes of PG are matched Program Outcome of the NCISM syllabus. Also, over and above the course work knowledge gaining and activities pertaining to the development of Ayurveda health care must be carryout by the Ph.D. and PG scholars of Kriya Sharir.

The scholars must be able to

  1. explain concepts of Kriya Sharir along with essentials of contemporary human physiology, biochemistry, Ayur-genomics, proteomics, metabolomics and macrobiotics related to all organ systems.
  2. make aware and communicate normal and abnormal variables and their effects on health to the stakeholders mainly patients and public pertaining to Kriya Sharir such as Ahara vidhi, Prakriti, Sara and Agni- Koshtha etc.
  3. carry out clinical examination and experiments handling / using modern equipment with interpretation of their results.
  4. differentiate the strengths & limitations of Ayurveda and contemporary sciences.
  5. present a short project work / research activity covering the role of Kriya Sharir in preventive and promotive healthcare.
  6. show a sense of curiosity and questioning attitude towards the life processes and to display compassion and ethical behaviour.
  7. prepare research protocol, write synopsis and dissertation/thesis
  8. effectively communicate verbally and in writing preferably using Ayurvedic terminology along with contemporary terminology among peers, medical professionals and community by presenting scientific papers, writing scientific articles and case studies in peer reviewed journals.
